Why We Teach Kids to Put Their Face in Without Goggles
At Quantum Athletics, one of the first things we help young swimmers learn is how to put their face in the water — without goggles! We know many kids love their goggles (and we love them too!), but there’s a reason we encourage some time without them. It’s all about helping swimmers feel confident and comfortable in the water — no matter what.
1. Building Water Comfort and Confidence
Learning to swim starts with feeling at ease in the water. When kids can put their face in without goggles, they get used to how the water feels on their eyes, nose, and mouth. That comfort helps them relax and stay calm if they get splashed or go underwater unexpectedly.
2. Preparing for Real-Life Situations
In real-life swimming moments — at the lake, the beach, or a backyard pool — goggles aren’t always around. We want every swimmer to feel safe and confident even without them. Knowing how to open their eyes underwater or blow bubbles without goggles means they’re ready for anything!
3. Strengthening Breath Control
Putting their face in without goggles helps kids practice key swimming skills — like blowing bubbles, holding their breath, and exhaling underwater. These small skills lead to big progress and stronger swimming overall.
4. Finding a Healthy Balance
Don’t worry — we’re totally okay with goggles! Once your child is comfortable putting their face in without hesitation, they’re welcome to wear goggles for part of class. Goggles can make swimming more enjoyable and help kids focus on strokes and technique. Our goal is balance: confidence first, goggles second.
5. Confidence That Lasts
That first moment a child realizes, “I can do this without goggles!” is a huge win. It builds independence and trust in themselves — something that carries through every level of swimming and beyond.
At Quantum Athletics, our goal is to help kids feel safe, strong, and confident in the water.
By starting without goggles (and using them once swimmers are ready), we help every child build lasting comfort, skill, and a true love for swimming — one splash at a time. 💦
