Objective: To reflect and review how they did at practice & what they did at practice.

LESSON #1:

  1. Decorate the front of the journals.
    • Encourage athletes to put pictures of themselves, pictures of goals for themselves, and to get creative. This is a vision board.
  2. Explain the purpose and rules of the journals.

“The purpose of the journals is to track progress throughout the season,
have a place to write thoughts and keep place of season goals.”

LESSON #2:

  1. Determine top 5 goals and write them down
  2. Talk about the importance of setting SMART goals and how to do that.
  3. Write 3 things that you are grateful for.

Lessons thereafter:

  • Always rate yourself today on a scale of 1-5
  • Coach picks an additional topic.

Topics to choose from:

  • Spend 5 minutes writing (or drawing) about the following topic.
  • What does it mean to be a good friend?
  • When you don’t feel like you have any more to give, what keeps you going?
  • What makes you happy?
  • Why is constant improvement so important?
  • What does grit mean?
  • Describe the best practice you’ve ever had.
  • What is your favorite part of cheer and why?
  • When a teammate is feeling down, what is your go-to to cheer them up?
  • Why is it important to acknowledge the feelings of others?
  • What words best describe you?
  • What life skills do you think cheerleading teaches?
  • What is something you admire in your coaches or mentors?
  • What is one thing you’d like to get better at?
  • When you’re having a tough day at practice, what is one thing that can always make you smile?
  • What makes a good day?
  • How do you feel when someone shows you gratitude?
  • Describe a time you set a goal and achieved it?
  • What is a big challenge you’ve faced in life?
  • What is your greatest quality?
  • How will you make the world a better place one day?
  • What is the best feeling in the world?
  • When you do something for others, how do you feel?

  • What does effort look like? On a scale of 1 – 5 rate your effort today.
